I greatly regret to have to inform you that

I have to-day received a telegres from the Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong conveying the news of the death, from syncope, on the 11th instant, when pro- ceeding from Hong Kong to Weihaiwsi on official duty, of your son Mr: George Cormack.

2. I will duly acquaint you with any further information that may reach me regarding this suð event, and, in the meantime, I beg that you will accept the expression of my deep sympathy with you in the loss you have thus sustained.
